“It doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away.”
A classic piece of literature. It has a very interesting premise but is not long enough to expand on the intriguing structure of society.
Montag is a fireman. He burns books for a living; it’s all he knows. He and his wife live happy, ordinary lives not questioning anything, never experiencing strife. Montag can feel something is wrong however. He starts reading some books he kept from the burnings and actually starts to think for himself.
When he questions his situation he is considered an outlier and a danger to those around him. The eeriness of his situation start to settle in and he starts to wonder if anything in his life is real. He finds a friend to talk to about this, but their relationship does not get a chance to fully develop.
Now that the government knows about him he has to escape, and once he does, it ends.
I really wish it had dove more into the complex societal norms that it alluded to, but the events that occur did not really allow it to do so, nor does it have the length to explore these ideas said events transpired. A solid read but I wanted so much more.
